American Express Golf Championship preview 2022

By Greg Stewart

Should I ever get a sponsor to provide a fully paid for golf tour, I would book at the La Quinta Resort California first call. With five full championship golf courses nestled in the beautiful Coachella Valley where the American Express will be hosted again this year.

The Tournament is unique in that the consists of 156 golfers on three courses who all play on three different courses over the first three days – The Nicklaus Course, The Stadium Course and the La Quinta Country Club, with those who have made the cut returning to the Stadium Course for the final round. As usual, to retain fairness, hole locations for the second and third rounds will remain in close proximity to positions in the first round.

Current Tournament favourite, Spanish Jon Rahm, at 6:1 for a win on SunBet , will no doubt be setting the pace and is my top choice for the tournament, but there are a few other class players worth considering if you are looking to take a sports betting punt.

Scottie Scheffler is a talented golfer and remarkably without a tour win yet. He will be gearing up to break his win hoodoo this season and should feature in the top 5 and you can get him at 5.5:1 for a top 5 on SunBet.

Sungjae Im has impressed with his consistent finishing and is a really good value bet for a win at 19:1 or a top 5 position at 5:1 on SunBet.

Patrick Cantlay is certainly worth a call having placed 9th in his previous outing here in 2019 and already notched up a top five position this seaon when he placed 4th at Kapalua only two weeks back. He is second favourite at 8.5:1 for a win and 2.88 for a top 5 on SunBet

Last off but worth a consideration is Hayden Buckley who is a rookie on tour this year who has made 4 cuts from 6 starts including a tied 4th position and 2 top ten places already to his season score card. He is certainly worth a call for a top 10 at 11:1 on SunBet
