Mike Makaab’s English Premier League Preview 2018/2019
This weekend sees the commencement of the EPL with much anticipation and excitement. Champions, Manchester City underlined their intentions with an emphatic Community Shield victory (2-0) over FA Cup holders Chelsea. There is little doubt in my mind that they will be the team to beat again this season, but I am not sure that their dominance will be as emphatic as last season.
The most likely contender to their crown is Liverpool who have been in devastating preseason form, whipping most before them. I think that Jurgen Klopp has strengthened in the right positions, especially in the goalkeeping department and there is little doubt that they again will be an attacking force to be reckoned with.
Manchester rivals, United will want to go one better than their runner-up berth last season, with their new signings and the good form shown by a number of their players in the recent Soccer World Cup, Jose Mourinho’s team should be a major player in the title race.
Outside of these three, I see the usual fight for European berths – Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.
So here is my prediction for the top four, in this order:
1. Manchester City
3. Manchester United
4. Tottenham Hotspur
