With the full field having been finalised the Horse Racing fraternity will be turning out in their finery to watch the top flight Grade-1 race that has all the Indicators of being a fantastic challenge with a field of 11 strong race contenders.

The 2021 champion, Rainbow Bridge, will not be in the field due to injury and subsequent retirement from racing, however there is a full line-up of champions such as the Durban July winner Kommetdieding, and the L’ Ormarins plate double winner, Dark Jet who will certainly be in the running. As an added bonus, Grade 1 Cape Guineas Champion Double Superlative and Premier Trophy winner Hoedspruit will be in the contest to become the 2022 Cape Town Met champion. Jet Dark has proved his class by firstly winning the 1800m Grade 1 L’Ormarins Plate as a 3-year old, and was successfully defending the title in January again. However, stamina doubts persist in his pedigree line and the 2000m length of the Met may be a challenge. Trainer Justin Snaith is however dismissive of any talk of Jet Dark not staying the distance, commenting that the 2000m would not be a challenge for this champion colt.

Kommetdieding, with champion jokey Gavin Larena in the stirrups, will be wanting to out run and outlast his rivals as he did in The July. He has great finishing speed with Trainer Crawford full of confidence his one runner from his stable will be in the running for a win in the Grade 1 race. Larena with 14 Grade-1 wins and 49 Grade-1 places in his career has brought the magic in many top tier events and will be hoping to guide his charge home to victory.

The only Filly in the running is Marina, who has accumulated 8 wins and 4 places in 14 starts should not be written off by any means. Trainer Candice Bass-Robinson indicating this week that the longer distance would suit the fleet-footed filly.
