PSL soccer fans should be treated to a meal of top class football this afternoon when the Soweto Derby kicks off at Orlando Stadium, Soweto at 15H30.

The historic clash goes all the way back to January 1970 when the Warriors faced off against Pirates only a few weeks after their team was officially formed. It has been a colourful history of “yellow versus Black and battles on and off field having been part of that history.

This match however will sadly not have any spectators to see the encounter as the government persists with lock-down restrictions for mass gatherings.

Both Chiefs and Pirates sit on 32 points on the Premiership table after 18 and 21 games respectively with Chiefs having won 9 and drawn 5, with the second best away record in the PSL this season, while Pirates have won 7 and drawn 11, with five of these wins and five draws at home making them the 3rd toughest team to beat at home. The teams lie in 3rd and 4thspot on the PSL table with only a few more rounds to play.

While the Premiership winner, is pretty much a foregone conclusion with Sundowns, who have only lost a single match this season, a clear 18 points ahead of second placed Royal AM, second spot is wide open and these teams have everything to play for.

The Amakhosi won their previous PSL fixture against Pirate with former Downs striker Keegan Dolly scoring a brace to secure a 2-1 home ground win. This outing it will be the same pairing of Dolly and Karma Billiat who will wish to beat their old rivals a second time this season.

Ghanaian, Kwame Peprah will however wanting to extend his teams home game record and send the Amakhosi home without any points and should be in line for a goal if he can slip through the Yellow defensive grid as he has done this season for Pirates.

It’s bound to be a close match and this is reflected in the current sports betting odd with Pirates at 2.43:1 for a win and Amakhosi at 3.20:1 for a win on SunBet.
