As a prelude to the Winter Olympics in February, the X Games Aspen 2022 will return to Buttermilk Mountain in Aspen Snowmass Village, Colorado, for the 21st consecutive year featuring fourteen disciplines including Men’s and Women’s Ski and Snowboard competitions in the disciplines of SuperPipe, Slopestyle, Big Air and Knuckle Huck.
What is Knuckle Huck you ask? It is a form of freestyle snowboarding or skiing, where essentially competitors show off the weirdest and most dangerous stunts off the ski slope knuckle or hump that they can come up with, hopefully without injuries. The category winner at the X Games takes home a set of gold-plated brass knuckles dangling from a chain. There are no silver or bronze medals. If you are an extreme sports fan you’re going to love Knuckle Huck and some of the weirdest stunts these incredible athletes come up with.
This year will see 100 top action sports athletes in a world class Winter x-Games competition from 21st -23rd January 2022.
Snowboard competition
Snowboard Double-Olympic gold medallist Jamie Anderson who also won a double gold in Aspen 2021 will be looking to defend her slopestyle and big air titles. Top competitors are Zoi Sadowski-Synnot - slopestyle world champion and Bronze medallist at the 2018 Peongchang Olympics, and young Japanese sensation Murase Kokomo will be close rivals. In the Men’s event, title defender Dusty Henricksen, will battle it out against the likes of slopestyle world champion Marcus Kleveland and Olympic big air champion and seven-time X-Game medallist Canadian Sebastien Toutant with Max Parrot possibly odds favourite in the Big Air discipline.
Ski Competition
2021 big air gold medallist, Mathilde Gremaud returns to the slopes at Aspen to defend her title and will have to contend with challenges from Sarah Hoefflin of Switzerland and Kelly Sidaru of Estonia while Tess Ledeux of France will not be out of contention either. The men’s competition is likely to provide fierce competition between top Swiss skier Andri Ragettli and Americans Nick Groepper and Alex Hall, with Mac Forehand also in contention for top honours. Henrik Harlaut would be the top pick for the Ski Big Air event.
